Four people were wounded by gunfire in separate shootings in Minneapolis on Wednesday, bringing the number of gunshot victims in the city this year to more than 60.

The shootings come as the city experiences a surge in violence.

Police statistics show that 59 people were shot in the city — 47 of them in north Minneapolis — from the beginning of the year to March 28, the last date for which reliable data were available.

During the same period last year, the city recorded nearly half that total — 31.

In the first attack Wednesday, two men, ages 23 and 24, were shot about 6 a.m. while at a home in the 2600 block of Monroe Street, in northeast Minneapolis, according to police. Both victims were treated at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale for apparently noncritical injuries and were uncooperative with officers investigating the incident, providing only a vague account of what happened, police said.

Later that evening, an 18-year-old man was shot by an unknown suspect near the corner of E. Lake Street and Bloomington Avenue S., police records show. According to an incident report, the shooting occurred at 7:28 p.m. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, police said.

About 90 minutes later, a gunman shot and wounded a 17-year-old boy at the same intersection, records show.

No arrests in any of the incidents were announced Thursday.
