A 13-year-old bicyclist who died after being hit by a car was identified Friday as Colin Nathaniel Larson of rural Cambridge.

The accident Thursday happened at the east intersection of Hillary Circle and 329th Avenue in Cambridge Township. The driver of the car was a 16-year-old boy from Cambridge who suffered minor injuries.

Isanti County Sheriff Bill Guenther said Friday that witnesses told authorities the 13-year-old rode through a stop sign and then was struck by the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

His identity has not been disclosed because the accident remains under investigation. No alcohol or drugs are believed to have been involved, Guenther said.

He said the families of both boys know one another.

Services for Colin Larson will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, with a gathering to begin at 1 p.m. In addition, a student-only gathering will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

In a statement Friday, the church said, “we are heartbroken at the tragic news of the death of 13-year-old Colin Larson, whose entire family is a treasured part of our First Baptist Church community. He was a loved member of our youth group, full of life and energy.”

The schools attended by the two boys will provide counseling to students when classes resume on Monday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The State Patrol is assisting Isanti County deputies with the investigation.
