ZeVan rates the current crop of forecasters

How many eyebrow waggles are they worth?

June 2, 2010 at 9:07PM

Back in the early 1970s, Barry ZeVan earned a reputation for delivering the weather forecast with personality. He's most remembered for poking his head into shots, waggling his eyebrows and hamming it up for the camera. We asked him how a few of today's local forecasters stack up when it comes to delivering fun with the forecast.

Disclaimer: ZeVan insists he likes and respects all of these people, therefore nothing less than 2 1/2 eyebrow waggles will be given.

Patrick Hammer, KSTP-TV, Ch. 5

3.5 waggles

He's personable, knows his stuff and has just a great personality. He's with it and hip to things that are going on.

Belinda Jensen, KARE-TV, Ch. 11

2.5 waggles

How can I diplomatically put this? I don't think she's as consistent in her delivery and explanations as she could be.

Ian Leonard, KMSP-TV, Ch. 9

4 waggles

He has a great personality and he's fun, but he really knows his meteorology. His delivery is terrific.

Chris Shaffer, WCCO-TV, Ch. 4

3.5 waggles

Chris is pleasant to listen to and also knows his thing.

Sven Sundgaard, KARE-TV, Ch. 11

3.5 waggles

He's fun, likable, knows his stuff and is interesting. Being young is a plus. He reminds me of me in some of his delivery.
