'World's Largest Truck Convoy' briefly puts scores of semis on Anoka County highways

A convoy of up to 100 semitrailer trucks created a brief traffic snarl for a good cause Saturday morning in the north metro.

Off-duty Anoka County authorities escorted the 11th annual World's Largest Truck Convoy, a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Minnesota. This year's convoy departed from the National Sports Center in Blaine around 10 a.m., and returned in about an hour.

Last year, a convoy of 99 trucks raised more than $30,000. Former Vikings football player Matt Blair served as this year's "honorary convoy chairperson."
