Israeli military kills 2 Palestinians in Gaza

The Israeli military killed two Palestinians in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, one in an airstrike and another as he approached the Gaza border. The military said its aircraft struck five targets in retaliation for Palestinian rocket fire on southern Israel.


Stolen Rembrandt found at church

A stolen 350-year-old Rembrandt sketch worth an estimated $250,000 that was swiped from the lobby of a Marina Del Rey hotel was found in an unlocked public area of an Encino church. A caller had recognized it from news accounts of its weekend theft, said a Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman.


Tobacco firms sue over graphic warnings

Four of the five largest U.S. tobacco companies sued the federal government over new graphic cigarette labels that include the sewn-up corpse of a smoker, saying the warnings violate free-speech rights and will cost millions of dollars to print. The companies said the warnings no longer simply convey facts to allow people to make a decision whether to smoke.
