Andy Ludwig is taking over as offensive coordinator at Vanderbilt after two seasons in that role at Wisconsin.

Vanderbilt announced the hire Monday in a university release that also indicated coach Derek Mason would call the Commodores' defensive alignments next season.

Ludwig also was quarterbacks coach the past two years at Wisconsin working for Gary Andersen, who left last month to take over at Oregon State.

Former offensive coordinator Karl Dorrell and defensive coordinator David Kotulski were fired after the Commodores went 3-9 this fall.


• Washington linebacker Shaq Thompson is forgoing his senior season and will declare for the NFL draft. Thompson finished his junior season with 81 tackles and scored four defensive touchdowns, including three on fumble returns.

• Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen confirmed that Manny Diaz was hired as defensive coordinator to replace Geoff Collins, who left for the same job at Florida. This will be Diaz's second stint with the Bulldogs.

• Auburn fired co-defensive coordinator Charlie Harbison in the latest move by coach Gus Malzahn to reshape his defensive staff.

• Florida coach Jim McElwain added several assistants, including former Miami (Fla.) coach Randy Shannon, who was hired as associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
