Winona State's baseball team will try to do what the Warriors men's basketball team has accomplished in recent years: win a national championship.
The Warriors will face West Florida at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cary, N.C., in the final of the NCAA Division II World Series.
The game will be televised on the CBS College Sports network and on the Internet at ncaa.com.
Winona State, which won Division II basketball national championships in 2006 and '08, will face a tall order in bringing home baseball hardware. West Florida, based in Pensacola, takes a 51-9 record and No. 4 national ranking into the final against the No. 16 Warriors (42-17).
In addition, the Argonauts will start Daniel Vargos-Vila, (15-1), who pitched eight shutout innings in a 13-0 victory over Southern Connecticut State in the series opener.
"Our rotation is set up as well as I could have drawn it up," Argonauts coach Mike Jeffcoat said.
Warriors center fielder/pitcher Tony Mueller has shown his versatility by pitching a complete game in the opening victory over Central Missouri, posting a save in the semifinal victory over Southern Connecticut State and driving in four runs in the tournament.
Catcher Kyle Sill, who dislocated a finger in the semifinals but continued to play, is 7-for-12 with four RBI in the series.
