2014 Vigneti Zanatta ‘Salana’ Cannonau di Sardegna
It’s always cool to come across unusual grapes — especially when they might extend your life. Truth be told, though, the 2014 Vigneti Zanatta “Salana” Cannonau di Sardegna ($15) would be a great buy regardless of its potential benefits. Seriously tasty red fruit shines in this rustic, focused, persistent gem. Because it is especially high in the antioxidant compounds known as polyphenols, scientists believe this Sardinian grape might help contribute to the “Blue Zone” effect of measurably longer lives in that part of the world. Cannonau is actually the same as Grenache, but Sicilian renditions are deeper, darker and heartier than versions found elsewhere. Thus, it’s a great winter sipper or a perfect pairing for stews and braised or roasted meats and veggies.
Available at McKnight, Lakeridge (Golden Valley), Cub (Stillwater), the Wine Shop, On the Rocks, Lake Street, Bridgeview and Sentyrz.
