Wild chatting with camp of David Backes, Eric Staal, among others

The Wild and Boston Bruins are two of the teams hot after Backes. It could come down to dollars, cents and term and/or where the former Spring Lake Park sees the best fit.

Quick update from Chateau Rousseau with the free-agent doors being kicked open at 11 a.m. sharp. I'll update throughout the day.

Multiple sources tell me Kyle Okposo in locked and loaded for the Buffalo Sabres.

From sources, the Wild are still very much in the mix for David Backes and Eric Staal. Is Staal an option only if it swings and misses with Backes or would the Wild conceivably be interested in signing both, making it a lock it moves Mikael Granlund and Charlie Coyle to left and right wing, respectively?

I suppose we may know soon enough.

Or, if the Wild signs Backes or Staal, does it sign a right wing as well?

I supposed we may know soon enough.

Wingers potentially available: Joe Colborne (who can play center), Mikkel Boedker, Jamie MCGINN (SORRY, SAID BENN), Jiri Hudler, I suppose Shane Doan, although it just seems shocking he wouldn't return to the Coyotes.

I'm told St. Louis is looking to bring back David Perron, that the Calgary Flames are all over Troy Brouwer.

Detroit getting Frans Nielsen, the Islanders Andrew Ladd, the Canucks Loui Eriksson and the Oilers Milan Lucic all seem locked.

I also expect the Wild to sign goalie Alex Stalock to a two-way deal as the franchise's No. 3.

More soon.
