A celebration of film and art takes place today and on other dates through March at the Winter Film Festival at Effigy Mounds National Monument in Marquette, Iowa. Films about John James Audubon, the lost empires of Inca, eagles and other birds and wild animals in America will be shown in conjunction with local artist exhibits. Film showings are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 1 p.m. Mondays (1-563-873-3491).

A jump on Irish fests Emmetsburg, Iowa

The celebration of St. Patrick's Day and Emmetsburg's Irish history begins this weekend and continues March 13-16 in the community where a statue of Irish hero Robert Emmet watches over the town named for him. Celtic culture Moorhead, Minn.
