WHITE EARTH, Minn. — The White Earth Tribal Council has accepted the resignation of its embattled chairwoman.

Erma Vizenor tells KFGO (http://bit.ly/1OIkjZM ) she had no choice but to step down because the council no longer supported her efforts to reform the tribe's constitution. Vizenor was censured by the Minnesota Chippewa tribe last month for allegedly violating the tribe's constitution. She served as tribal chairwoman since 2004.

Vizenor says she's been an honorable chairwoman and vows to return.
