As the holidays kick into high gear, the question isn’t what to buy so much as where to go for the best selection of gifts. Since that answer varies — considerably — depending on who you’re hunting for, we decided to break down the very best of Edina’s vibrant shopping areas by common types of consumers.

And since we’ve all felt the sudden panic of December 24 before, we also made sure to include one-stop solutions for last-minute looks. After all, no one needs to know you procrastinated for the third year in a row. Not when nearly every noteworthy gift imaginable is spread between two of the metro area’s top malls (Galleria Edina, Southdale Center) and a district that’s a destination in and of itself (50th & France).

For the Luxe Lifers

Looking for a high-quality hit that’ll feel both indulgent and exclusive — something for a friend or family member who literally seems to have it all? Start in Southdale’s new luxury wing, an ongoing $400 million project that has given the country’s first climate-controlled mall a considerable glow-up. Its first wave of iconic tenants includes Burberry, David Yurman, Breitling, Louis Vuitton, Max Mara and Moncler. Other imminent arrivals to the second-floor slate are Gucci, Tiffany & Co., and a bold Watches of Switzerland buildout that’ll be stocked with spectacular Rolexes.

Not to be outdone in the new openings department is Galleria Edina, which now boasts the first Minnesota location of the truly luxurious bedding company Boll & Branch, a fully refreshed Face Foundrié (the beloved franchise was founded in Edina), and the second Edina outpost of Faribault Mill. Because why buy any old woolen blanket when you can grab one that Harrison Ford wore on the set of the “1923?” (Kevin Costner was also spotted alongside one in “Yellowstone.”) If that’s not enough of an excuse to swing by, Vivid Home and a welcome Arhaus expansion are both on the way soon as well.

For the Tradition Keepers

Keeping things classic (and classy) with timeless holiday treasures is another recent Galleria Edina opening: Pumpz Bijoux, a vintage jewelry whisperer that specializes in pristine statement pieces from the likes of Chanel and Hermès. While you’re there, you might as well swing by Ampersand; its stable of stellar brands is a veritable alphabet of decorating and dining essentials, from Antica Farmacista to Zafferano.

Over in 50th & France is Shop in the City, the place to pick up flashbacks to Dayton’s — the state’s most beloved department store, and the beginnings of what would later become Target. Its nostalgic collection features a full line of clothing and unique gifts like cocktail napkins, a can-shaped beer glass, and a minimal coffee mug.

For the Conscious Curators

Ask the many taste-making young professionals and millennials out there what they want this holiday season and they’ll tell you: something that’s not only ethical and sustainable, but — let’s be honest — Instagram-worthy. In case you can’t tell from its nods to French royalty (the Gainsbourgs), Serge + Jane is a fitting start, offering everything from Jellycat’s furry Bartholomew Bear Tote Bag to Geometry’s tricked-out tea towels (e.g., a gingham pattern for preppies and skulls for lifelong goths).

Located right down the road in the 50th and France neighborhood are next-door neighbors offering the perfect one-two punch: the perpetually on-trend designer products of Grethen House (Comme des Garçons, Apiece Apart, and MM6 Maison Margiela, oh my!) and the upscale resale wonderland that is Fashion Avenue. Depending on the day, you might score gently loved finds that skew either couture (Tom Ford, Dolce & Gabanna, Vivienne Westwood) or contemporary (Acne Studio, Helmut Lang, Farm Rio).

Bean + Ro beckons with even more options just five minutes further down south, right in between Pamela and Rosland Parks. While it also stocks covetable clothing, the real draw here may be its wide range of revelatory home goods: tortoise resin-poured coasters, a wine stopped in the shape of an acrylic golf ball, fluted, hand-blown decanters that look as if they lifted from the set of Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette” movie, and both pink and blue pickleball trays for suitable trinket storage.

For the Modern Gentleman

Edina has something for all the style-driven men in your life, regardless of whether they spend their free time reading the latest issues of GQ and Esquire, or staying on top of TikTok trends, streetwear blogs and fashion-forward Instagram feeds. While impeccably attired outdoorsmen will appreciate just about anything from the 50th & France location of Billy Reid, the Cali-dreaming clothing of Faherty is also nearby for any would-be surfers or straight-up beach heads.

On the mall side of things, Galleria Edina has another heritage wear heavyweight on hand (Filson), along with limited office looks (Hammer Made) and all the latest buzzed-about brands (Jaxen Grey, arguably one of Minnesota’s best curated menswear stores). Aside from its aforementioned luxury lineup — which also includes the one-and-only Ralph Lauren — Southdale Center sports resurgent standbys like J. Crew and Banana Republic, and the leading athleisure looks of Lululemon and the soon-to-be-unveiled Vuori.

For Anyone Who “Forgot” the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Here’s the thing about Edina: If you simply want to wander the destination-worthy streets of 50th & France, or the ever-evolving corridors of Galleria Edina and Southdale Center, you simply won’t run out of potential gifts even the pickiest recipients will appreciate.

If you’re short on time, however, you can always go in a department store direction at Macy’s Southdale location; careen across three different Pottery Barn concepts and such exclusives as Shinola, Design Within Reach, and Yeti at Galleria Edina; or knock out eleventh hour essentials for kids (Pacifier, oh baby!) and co-workers (Coccinella Mediterranean Heritage, SENTi) at 50th & France.

As for things to do once your list is wrapped — and the rest of the year, for that matter — Edina has no shortage of noteworthy eateries, year-round indoor and outdoor activities, essential staycation stops, and sun-soaked patios for when the last gasps of winter turn into the first signs of spring.
