The Waseca teen accused in an unfulfilled school massacre plot made his first appearance in adult court Monday morning.
John LaDue is being housed in the Waseca County jail while a bail study is conducted. A judge certified him as an adult for court last week, and officials moved him from a youth facility in Willmar.
A judge set bail Monday at $750,000 without conditions or $500,000 with conditions such as he remain law abiding, possess no firearms and have no contact with schools, no access to the Internet and no violent television or videos, county attorney Brenda Miller said.
LaDue was 17 years old when authorities found him in April 2014 with bomb-making materials, guns and a detailed notebook that laid out his massacre plans. A court dismissed attempted murder charges against him, finding that he hadn't taken steps substantial enough to warrant them.
He still faces six charges of possessing explosive devices. If convicted as an adult on those, he would face a guideline sentence of 60 months in prison, Miller said.
