Instead of fast food, Bachman's will be serving fast flowers from drive-through windows on Valentine's Day.
Time-crunched romantics can pull up and order roses, tulips or orchids for their sweethearts. Then, in less time than it takes to cook a basket of fries, Bachman's staff will deliver the flora to the car window.
The Minneapolis floral and garden center launched drive-through flowers last year; more than 200 people took advantage of lounging in a toasty warm car while fulfilling their Valentine's Day duty.
"People are so time-strapped these days and like the convenience," said Susan Bachman, director of perishable buying. Customers also requested non-rose and lower-priced options, including sides of chocolate, budget-friendly single-stem roses and plush teddy bears.
"Dads wanted a little bear to give their children," said Bachman. "So we added that this year." The floral drive-throughs will be open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Valentine's Day at six Twin Cities stores.
Over at Wagners on 6024 Penn Av. S., loverboys can choose between the doghouse and a bouquet. Owner Nola Wagner has set up a big red doghouse visible from cars whizzing by on Penn Avenue. A banner proclaims, "Men stay out of the doghouse. Buy a dozen roses for $24.99."
"It's a good gimmick to get people's attention as they drive by," she said.
