Tim Wakefield will be making his third try for career win No. 200 tonight, when the Red Sox play the Twins at Target Field.

Jim Thome, who has 598 career home runs, is 10-for-58 lifetime off Wakefield with three homers.

The Twins counter with Scott Baker, who went just three innings in his last start, last Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif.

When Wakefield's knuckleball is dancing, it's tough for any team, but the Twins defeated the Red Sox 9-2 with this same pitching matchup on May 6 in Boston. Trevor Plouffe homered off Wakefield in that game.

Sleep deprived

The Red Sox must have arrived at their hotel after 4 a.m., after last night's marathon game against the Yankees in Boston. Of course, the Red Sox were savoring a victory that moved them into first place.

They'll be short on sleep, and this game has been pushed up an hour, to 6:10 p.m., because ESPN will be televising it.

* Tsuyoshi Nishioka's wife, Naoko, gave birth to the couple's first child, a baby girl. Everyone is healthy. Nishioka is not in the starting lineup, but he might be here and available off the bench, Manager Ron Gardenhire said.

* Gardenhire said there are times when a manager needs to scream and yell at his team, and times when he needs to be careful not to kick them when they're down. Sunday's postgame talk could have gone either way. "Honestly, I went in there, in the mind that I was going to scream and yell, but there were some guys in there that took [the loss] pretty hard, so I decided I didn’t need to kick them, and I backed away from them."

Gibson, Slama update
