NEXT OPPONENT: CAROLINA (1-1)

The Panthers opened with a loss at Denver, with QB Cam Newton taking some big shots, but rebounded to roll San Francisco.

OPPONENT WEEK 2

Carolina 46, San Francisco 27

Fozzy Whittaker rushed for 100 yards and Newton accounted for 390 yards as the Panthers rolled to a 31-10 lead and coasted to the victory. The defending NFC champs forced three turnovers.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Cam Newton, quarterback

The NFL's MVP last season showed why, passing for 353 yards and four touchdowns. Newton also rushed for 37 yards, rebounding from a Denver game in which he took at least five head shots but never left the game.

OUTLOOK

The Panthers at home are still the NFC's best team until proven otherwise. Outlook: Horns down
