Temperatures across Florida will plummet Tuesday night, as the combination of clear skies, light winds and a cold, dry air mass drop the mercury well below the freezing mark in central Florida and close to freezing as far south as West Palm Beach.

The critical temperature for citrus is 28 degrees and how long the temperature remains at or below that temperature. At this point, it looks like there could be some damage to the northernmost groves by early Wednesday morning.

By the weekend, an even colder air mass could arrive across the Sunshine State.
