United (7-2-4) is tied for first place with Ottawa in points with 25, although the Fury owns the tie-breaker.

U golfer wins home meet

Sophomore Celia Kuenster of the Gophers sank a 3-foot par putt on the final hole Tuesday to capture medalist honors in the Minnesota Invitational at the Minikahda Club by one stroke. Kuenster (68-72-73—213) edged defending champion Frida Gustafsson Spang of East Carolina by one stroke to win her first collegiate tournament with a 3-under total. As a team, the Gophers tied for fourth place with a score of 895. Purdue (884) won the team title.

U women favored in WCHA

The Gophers women's hockey team was picked as the preseason favorite in the WCHA, collecting six of a possible seven first-place votes from the league coaches.

Senior forward Hannah Brandt of Minnesota was named the preseason player of the year for a third time and forward Sarah Potomak of Aldergrove, British Columbia, the preseason rookie of the year.
