United States Dodging Bullets

September 16, 2010 at 7:25PM

The United States coastline will almost completely escape the current onslaughtof hurricanes. The only effect will be rip currents. Igor's powerfulcirculation will shove large waves against the Eastern Seaboard late Saturday,Sunday, and probably Monday. All that extra incoming water has to exitsomewhere, and it will do so in the form of rapid outgoing currents. So where are all these hurricanes headed? The worst one, Igor, is going tosmash across Bermuda Sunday and early Monday with winds topping 90 miles perhour. Hurricane Karl is going to produce destructive winds, flooding rain, andlandslides in Mexico Friday into Saturday. Finally, there is Julia, who willnot bother anyone. That storm will make a broad turn through the centralAtlantic and continue to weaken.

The United States is dodging all the bullets this time around, but that may notcontinue. Many days from now, a new hurricane may form in the Caribbean, thenpose a threat to the Gulf of Mexico.
