Minnesota United FC opened its North American Soccer League fall season with a 3-0 road victory over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Saturday night at Lockhart Stadium. Daniel Mendes scored in the 23rd minute off a corner kick by Justin Davis to give the Loons a 1-0 halftime lead.

Christian Ramirez put United ahead 2-0 in the 59th minute, and Miguel Ibarra scored in the 78th.

"Coming in at halftime I felt the scoreline wasn't what we were looking for and we had to put a little more effort into certain areas of the game," United coach Manny Lagos said.

"We came out in the second half and made some adjustments and had an outstanding second half. I'm very pleased with the away result in the first game of the season and I know we still have work to do to get better."

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
