Unique ministry celebrates new space

Open house features church renovation

February 4, 2012 at 2:46PM

The new SpringHouse Ministry Center is planning an open house Saturday, Feb. 4, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in south Minneapolis. This is a beautiful renovated church at 610 W. 25th Street in the former Salem English Lutheran Church.

We're writing about this project on Just Listed, because the open house includes the neighboring Greenleaf Apartments off Lyndale Avenue. The two ventures are interconnected, and involve three progressive Protestant congregations -- First Christian Church, Lyndale United Church of Christ and Salem lutheran. While maintaining their separate congregations, the three now worship in the former Salem space, which has three sanctuaries, community rooms, a commercial kitchen and offices.

The land on which the 63-apartment building now sits was sold to help pay for the renovation. It was developed by Brighton Construction, and most of the one- and two-bedroom units have been leased.

Most of the work is done at the church, and now SpringHouse is ready to show off its digs on Saturday. Stop by. It's a lovely space.

A special worship service will be held at 3 p.m. on March 25 to formally dedicate the building.
