Memphis and Temple jumped into the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time this season, joining Houston to give the American Athletic Conference three ranked teams for the first time in the history of the 3-year old league.

Memphis (6-0) had the big upset of the weekend against Mississippi. The 37-24 victory vaulted the Tigers into the rankings at No 18.

Memphis has been ranked only two other times: for one week in 2004 and at the end of last season.

No. 22 Temple (6-0) is in the AP poll for the first time since the final 1979 rankings.

"I'm really proud of our players, and it's a tribute to them that people have noticed how they have played to this point," Temple coach Matt Rhule said. "I am thrilled that we have been able to get off to a 6-0 start. But I'll repeat what I have said before: It's a long season, and I'll be happier if we can finish the year ranked among the best in the country."

No. 21 Houston also is 6-0 under new coach Tom Herman.

The American is what is left of the old Big East football conference after realignment stripped it of many of its top schools. Commissioner Mike Aresco kept the league alive by wooing a handful of Conference USA teams, including Memphis and Houston, and adding former independent Navy this season to create a 12-team conference.

Other poll notes

Utah rushed for minus-2 yards in the first half, but Travis Wilson picked up 220 yards through the air, throwing touchdown passes to Kenneth Scott (career-high 166 receiving yards) and Harris Handley.

Utah's Devontae Booker rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Sixty-two of those yards came on a TD run with 1:11 left in the game.
