Had the chance to watch much of UMD's 2-0 victory over Union in the East Regional.

The Bulldogs certainly played with fire. The Dutchmen had nine power plays but their 31.1 percent power play -- best in the nation -- was 0 for 9 with a man advantage.

UMD was 2 for 8 on the power play. Kyle Schmidt got the game-winner on a tip in the first period. Justin Fontaine scored in the third period. It was Schmidt's ninth goal of the season, Fontaine's 21st.

The Bulldogs are 7-0 in first-round NCAA games, and 7-0-1 all-time against Union.

AFTER LOOONG WAIT, MICHIGAN WINS

The referees watched the play over and over again. And after almost a 10-minute video review, ruled a shot by Kevin Lynch of Michigan in overtime crossed the goal line.

That gave the Wolverines a 3-2 victory over Nebraska Omaha in the West Regional. It was Lynch's second goal of the game.

UNO took a 2-0 lead on goals by Rich Purcell, short-handed, and Alex Hudson.

RPI COACH GETS 7-YEAR EXTENSION

Seth Appert, a Minnesota native, has gotten a 7-year contract extension, through 2017-18, after leading RPI to the NCAA tournament this year.

"I'm thrilled," Appert was quoted as saying by a newspaper in Troy, N.Y. ""Thrilled to be here and to stay here."

Appert played goalie for Park of Cottage Grove in high school.
