U wrestling: Steinhaus receives Big Ten weekly award

Kevin Steinhaus beat the nation's No. 1 wrestler at his weight on Sunday.

Redshirt sophomore Kevin Steinhaus of the Gophers has been named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week after leading the No. 3-rated Gophers to an upset over then-No. 2 Penn State on Sunday.

Steinhaus, now ranked fifth in the country at 184 pounds by InterMat, earned a 6-1 decision win over then-No. 1 Quentin Wright of Penn State in the Gophers' 23-14 victory.

Steinhaus is 5-1 overall this season, 1-1 in dual matches. He was previously ranked No. 8 in the InterMat rankings.

The is his second Big Ten Wrestler of the Week award. He previously was honored on Dec. 14, 2010.

The Gophers next opponent is North Dakota State at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sports Pavilion.
