The fourth-ranked Gophers closed out their Big Ten wrestling season Sunday by winning nine of 10 bouts in a 34-5 dual-meet victory over No. 18 Wisconsin in Madison.
The victory left the Gophers tied for second in the Big Ten with Penn State, both at 7-1. Iowa clinched the league title Sunday.
The Gophers' victories Sunday included a fall by David Thorn at 125 pounds, a major decision at 149 by Dylan Ness and one forfeit. The Badgers got a major decision from fifth-ranked Tyler Graff over Corey Hodowanic at 133.
The Gophers are off until Feb. 22-23, when they are hosts of the National Duals at Williams Arena.
U gets softball win The Gophers softball team scored its first victory of the season and split two games at the Sportco Kickoff Classic in Las Vegas. After falling 16-8 to Louisville, the Gophers (1-3) defeated host UNLV 4-0. Sara Moulton pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven.
Paige Palkovich had an RBI triple and Erica Meyer went 2-for-4 for the Gophers.
The Gophers got home runs from Bree Blanchette, Kaitlyn Richardson and Brandi McGregor in the first game, but lost after Louisville broke open a 6-6 game with nine unanswered runs.
Gophers women lose in tennis The Gophers women's tennis team lost 6-1 at Oklahoma. Aria Lambert claimed the lone Gophers victory, 7-6, 6-2 over Abbi Melrose at No. 5 singles.
