The 11th-ranked Gophers women's gymnastics team staged a dramatic rally to finish first in a four-team meet at Penn State on Saturday evening.
The Gophers (4-0) finished with a team total of 195.525. Kent State took second place (195.450), followed by Penn State (194.300) and Towson 192.175.
Kayla Slechta won the vault (9.925), while teammates Lindsay Mable and Kylie Schermann tied for first in floor exercise (9.875). Mable also won the all-around title (39.325).
The Gophers, last after their first rotation, won with a strong finish on the vault.
• The U men's team took fourth in the six-team Windy City Invitational in Chicago with a score of 425.75 Their best performances were two fourth-place finishers, Sean Bauer (15.2) in floor exercise and Harris Coleman (15.0) in pommel horse.
U women rompThe Gophers women won six events Saturday in the Jack Johnson Classic at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse to easily take first in the two-day event. The Gophers finished with 203 points. North Dakota State had 135 and Western Michigan 128.
Todea-Kay Willis, who won the long jump the day before, won the 60-meter dash in 7.50 seconds, a personal record. Alena Brooks won the 600 meters (1:31.49) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay (3:47.48).
Other winners for the Gophers were Bria Halama in the triple jump (39-3¼), Laura Docherty in the mile (4:53.08), and Christina DeLakis in the shot put (49-9¾).
