Hilary Knight beat Noora Raty in the third round of a shootout Friday night to give the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team a victory over the No. 2 Gophers before an announced crowd of 2,554 at Ridder Arena.
The game officially counts as a 3-3 tie, but Wisconsin (19-1-1, 13-1-1 WCHA) gets two points in the conference standings and the Gophers (17-3-1, 11-3-1) get one.
Gophers goalie Noora Raty stopped Brooke Ammerman and Brianna Decker before Knight beat her.
Amanda Kessel, Sarah Erickson and Megan Bozek went 0-for-3 in the shootout for the Gophers.
Anne Schleper had a goal and an assist in regulation, becoming the third Gophers defenseman to record 100 points in her career, along with Courtney Kennedy and Winny Brodt.
The Gophers came back from deficits of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2. They were outshot 16-4 in the first period and trailed late in regulation before Bozek tied the score with 2 minutes, 8 seconds remaining, scoring her 10th goal of the season.
The Gophers then thought they had won in the final minute of the third period, but the referees disallowed a Jen Schoullis goal with 44 seconds to play after review because they said the puck was knocked in by a gloved hand.
Schoullis did score earlier in the third period, her 15th goal of the season, tying the score at 2-2. The Badgers went ahead 3-2 on Ammerman's goal, when Raty appeared to have the puck covered before it snuck in.
