The fourth-ranked Gophers lost 3-1 Saturday night to No. 1 Wisconsin on front of the largest crowd ever to watch a collegiate women's hockey game.

The announced Kohl Center crowd of 10,668 saw the Badgers (24-2-2, 18-2-2 WCHA) jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Hilary Knight only 47 seconds into the game, and a shorthanded score by Brianna Decker at 6:32.

Becky Kortum cut the lead to one for the Gophers (18-7-2, 13-7-2) on a shorthanded breakaway at 4:42 in the second. The Badgers answered with a power-play goal by Carolyne Prevost.

The previous record crowd was the Camp Randall Hockey Classic in Madison, attended by 8,263 fans who saw the Badgers beat Bemidji State 6-1 last Feb. 6.

Etc.• The Gophers men's track and field team won nine events to cruise to the title in the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invitational in Ames, Iowa. The Gophers compiled 180 team points to Iowa State's second-place tally of 64. Micah Hegerle won the weight throw with a career-best heave of 67 feet, 5¾ inches, a mark that ranks third in Minnesota history.

• The Gophers women's swimming and diving team captured dual meet victories over Purdue, Wisconsin and Illinois at the Quad Dual meet in West Lafayette, Ind. The No. 13 Gophers recorded three individual victories in seven events: Haley Spencer won the 400-meter individual medley in a time of 4 minutes, 23.79 seconds; Kaylee Jamison won the 100 butterfly in 54.75; and Ashley Steenvoorden won the 500 freestyle in 4:47.16.

• The Gophers men's swimming and diving team captured four events titles in the second day of the Triple Duals in West Lafayette, Ind., coming away with a 1-1 dual-meet record for the weekend. Ivan Gutesa won the 200-yard breaststroke title in a time of 2 minutes, 1.70 seconds. Curt Carlson won the 100 freestyle in 44.97 seconds, edging teammate Michael Richards (45.05) by eight-hundredths of a second. The duo, with Zach Bolin and Kyler Van Swol, won the 400 freestyle relay in 2:59.01. Matt Benecki captured the 500 free (4:29.10).

• The Swarm defeated the Washington Stealth 11-10 in overtime at Xcel Energy Center. Ryan Benesch scored the game-winner as the Swarm improved to 3-1 to stay in first place in the Western Division.
