U women, Badgers tie, but shootout goes to UW

The fourth-ranked Gophers twice rallied from one-goal deficits to earn a 2-2 tie with No. 1 Wisconsin, but the Badgers won the shootout to take the extra standings point in a WCHA women's game on Friday night in Madison, Wis.

The Gophers' Kelly Terry tied the score 2-2 at 1:16 of the third period. Sarah Davis scored in the first period for Minnesota (18-6-2, 13-6-2 WCHA).

Wisconsin (23-2-2, 18-2-2) got a first-period goal from Meghan Duggan and a second-period score from Mallory Deluce.

The Badgers won the shootout 3-1 as Brooke Ammerman, Duggan and Brianna Decker scored. Sarah Erickson scored for the Gophers, but Amanda Kessel's shootout attempt was stopped.

Etc.• Defending NCAA champion Kelci Bryant won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events to help the Gophers women's swimming and diving team to a first-day lead in all three matchups in the Quad Duals in West Lafayette, Ind. After 10 events, the Gophers have leads over Purdue (118-87), Wisconsin (132-83) and Illinois (170-35) score. The meet concludes Saturday.

• The Gophers men got victories from Michael Richards in the 50 freestyle and Curt Carlson in the 200 freestyle at the Triple Duals at Purdue. Minnesota leads Wisconsin 123-77 but trails Purdue 133-70.

• The Gophers men's tennis team lost 4-0 to sixth-ranked UCLA in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles. The Gophers play Fresno State on Saturday in L.A.
