University of Minnesota police are asking students to be safe in response to reports that some students are pretending to jump in front of or push others in front of Green Line trains.
A public safety alert issued Monday said Green Line operators say they are seeing the "risky behavior" on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights on Washington Avenue between Huron Boulevard and Church Street.
"LRT operators are understandably nervous, and Metro Transit police have increased their presence in the area," the alert said.
In addition to being "a very bad idea," the acts are illegal and could lead to jail time and a fine, said Deputy Chief Chuck Miner of the U Police Department, which issued the advisory at the request of Metro Transit.
