University of Minnesota workers gathered at a busy intersection on campus Monday to protest the current state of contract negotiations. The U has offered a 0.75 percent salary increase to employees who are represented by Teamsters Local 320. Among those affected by the proposal are food service, custodial and clerical workers throughout the university system. Union leaders said the offer is particularly stinging given how much U administrators and coaches earn — men's basketball coach Richard Pitino got a $400,000 raise earlier this summer. That's more than the total salary increase for all of the Teamsters combined.
