The Twins have selected lefthander Scott Diamond from the Atlanta Braves organization with the 27th overall selection in the Rule 5 draft.

Diamond has to remain on the Twins major league roster all season or be offered back to Atlanta. The sides could work out a trade if the Twins want to keep him and send him to the minors.

The Yankees not only are here for the draft - they usually blow it off - they have selected TWO players in the major league phase. I am going to faint.

Stay tuned for more details

UPDATE: Diamond, 24, was 8-7 with a 3.46 ERA between Class AA Mississippi and Class AAA Gwinnett County last year in 27 starts. In 158.2 innings. he walked 54 and struck out 123. He gave up just six homers and has given up 19 in three minor league seasons.

Here's his history, according to The Baseball Cube

Here's what's Jonathan Mayo wrote about Diamond before the draft:

Scott Diamond, LHP, Braves: A starter for his career, the southpaw had a 3.46 ERA and 123 K's in 158 2/3 IP. He's been better against lefties for the most part, so a specialist role could be in the offing

UPDATE: The Nationals just selected RHP Michael Allen from the Twins' Class AA New Britain roster.

And the Cardinals have selected lefty Jean Mijares - not Jose - off the New Britain roster,

The Braves selected rigthander Elicer Cardenas from the New Britain roster.
