Q Questions from an occasional TV addict:

• Has "30 Rock" jumped the shark? It used to be cutting-edge crazy, surreal and funny. But now, especially with the Leap Day episode, it seems barely surreal, bordering on insane.

• Is "Alcatraz" pointless -- a mystery around an old prison that basically wants to tell a police story but pretend there's something more there?

A There's been much chatter online this season about the purported decline of "30 Rock," with one faction backing the theory that Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) has been infantilized and another saying she was always a crazy mess.

I tend to fall somewhere in the middle: She's always been a crazy mess, but she also seems to defer to Jack (Alec Baldwin) more than she used to.

As for the show, it's simply more hit-or-miss than it once was. But that's been true for several seasons. Episodes in recent weeks have been better than those at the start of the season.

"Alcatraz," which had a strong pilot, quickly devolved into catch-the-bad-guy-of-the-week blandness with an insufficient hit of weird serialization plopped at the end of each episode.

Early-morning news blues

Q What are your thoughts on the new early-morning cable-news battle? CNN has resorted to gimmicks and playing phone tricks on "professionals," and now "Fox and Friends First" is the model showcase at 4 a.m.

Really, I just want a recap of overnight news and what's coming up for the day, not games and sophomoric tricks at 4 a.m. I like getting fresh news at that hour, but do I really have to suffer though phone pranks and eye candy to get the news?

A Sorry, but even as a relatively early riser, that's too early for me. I've never caught the morning-TV-cable habit, instead rotating through the broadcast network morning shows. Right now, I'm sticking with "CBS This Morning" despite misgivings about the format of the first half-hour, the only portion of the program I watch.

Seeking truth about Syfy show

Q Is "Destination Truth" canceled? It's my favorite Syfy show and has been gone quite a while. I've tried looking for answers on the Internet but come up short.

A Not yet. Season 5 will premiere sometime this year, but a date hasn't been announced.
