Q Questions from an occasional TV addict:
• Has "30 Rock" jumped the shark? It used to be cutting-edge crazy, surreal and funny. But now, especially with the Leap Day episode, it seems barely surreal, bordering on insane.
• Is "Alcatraz" pointless -- a mystery around an old prison that basically wants to tell a police story but pretend there's something more there?
A There's been much chatter online this season about the purported decline of "30 Rock," with one faction backing the theory that Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) has been infantilized and another saying she was always a crazy mess.
I tend to fall somewhere in the middle: She's always been a crazy mess, but she also seems to defer to Jack (Alec Baldwin) more than she used to.
As for the show, it's simply more hit-or-miss than it once was. But that's been true for several seasons. Episodes in recent weeks have been better than those at the start of the season.
"Alcatraz," which had a strong pilot, quickly devolved into catch-the-bad-guy-of-the-week blandness with an insufficient hit of weird serialization plopped at the end of each episode.
