War path

TCM is dedicating the entire Memorial Day weekend to films honoring servicemen and women in times of war and peace. Among my personal favorites: 1951's "The Steel Helmet," Samuel Fuller's gripping tale about Americans pinned down in a Buddhist temple during the Korean War. 12:45 p.m. Saturday, TCM

Let your hair down

For those who are about to watch rock, we salute you. The previously recorded "The 2014 Golden Gods Awards" honored metal artists such as Slayer, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. This year's lifetime achievement award went to Axl Rose, who reportedly actually showed up to receive it. 7 p.m. Saturday, VH1 Classic

Not a sunny day in Philadelphia

It's a shame that you have to hunt for "Independent Lens" documentaries on our local stations, but it's worth the effort. The latest: "Let the Fire Burn," a look at the 1985 conflict between Philadelphia police and black-power activists that resulted in the deaths of 11 people, including five children. 9 p.m. Saturday, TPT Life
