Pomp and circumstance

A new season of "The Middle" is by no way guaranteed, but we're hoping for the best if only because we want to see how Sue (Eden Sher) handles college. Safe to say that her high school graduation in this season finale has its glitches. 7 p.m. KSTP, Ch. 5

The wonder years

If you thought that growing up was tough, wait until you meet the infants in "Animal Childhood," a new edition of "Nature" that explores the challenges facing youngsters who don't have nannies or a trust fund. 7 p.m. TPT, Ch. 2

Winning isn't everything

"American Idol" concludes its 14th season with the crowning of a new champion who will most likely be playing soon at a casino near you. "Idol" desperately needs another breakout star if it's going to stay relevant. Of course, a lack of success after reality TV certainly hasn't hurt "The Voice." 7 p.m. KMSP, Ch. 9
