They say it's your birthday

Age is nothing but a number, at least according to NBC, which is celebrating an icon's 90th birthday for the second time with "Betty White's 2nd Annual 90th Birthday Special" (7 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11). The cast of "Hot in Cleveland," as well as Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton and Whoopi Goldberg, help White blow out the candles.

Take 2

"Smash" (8 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11) gets a reboot with the addition of younger performers and the removal of wacky dance numbers. What remains is some compelling music and a cast, led by Debra Messing, that you still want to root for. Let's hope this ambitious musical comedy can somehow find its rhythm.

Father of invention

Robert Noyce may not have the name brand of Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, but the founder of Intel is as responsible for our communications revolution as anyone. His innovations from the 1950s and '60s are documented in "Silicon Valley" (8 p.m., KTCA, Ch. 2), the latest edition of "American Experience."
