The great escapist

All three of Steve McQueen's wives, including Ali MacGraw, share their memories of him in "I Am Steve McQueen," a new documentary that isn't afraid to show the rough edges of one of film's most magnetic stars. Producers are generous with clips, but it's a head scratcher as to why they didn't focus more on "The Reivers," one of the actor's riskiest works. 8 p.m. Spike

Get your motor runnin'

Car enthusiasts will want to buckle up for "Motor City Masters," a new series set on discovering the next great auto designer. Ten competitors will be judged by experts and celebrity guests, including Melissa Joan Hart, Jesse Metcalfe and Pete Wentz. 9 p.m. TruTV

Arabian nights

The behind-the-scenes pedigree doesn't get much better than this: Former Minnesota playwright Craig Wright has teamed up with "Homeland" producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, as well as "Moonlighting" creator Glenn Gordon Caron, to make "Tyrant," a new series about how an American family is sucked into the inner workings of a fictional Middle Eastern nation. 9 p.m. FX
