TV critic's picks: Wednesday

"Hot in Cleveland," "The Hour"

It's getting hot in here The indestructible Betty White returns for a new season of "Hot in Cleveland" (9 p.m., TVL), the ageless sitcom that's served its veteran cast well. Even more exciting: The network recently announced the show will do a live episode in summer 2013. Make sure to get a catnap, Betty! Unfortunately, the evening also promises the return of "Happily Divorced" (9:30 p.m., TVL).

Book notes Neil Young will probably mumble about trains and stuff when he stops by to talk -- and only talk -- on "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" (10 p.m., Comedy). I'm sure his new autobiography is fascinating, but shouldn't great musicians be required to sing something when they're pimping their books?

On the clock TV's sexiest, sleekest period drama is back -- and we're not talking "Mad Men." "The Hour" (8 p.m., BBCA), the British import from the mind of Abi Morgan ("The Iron Lady"), returns, one year after we last left the characters. Sorry, "Twilight" fans, but Bel's search for love is a lot more compelling than Bella's romantic adventures.
