Training camp Contestants who made it past the audition rounds of "The X Factor" (7 p.m., KMSP, Ch. 9) now head to boot camp in Miami, where judges and their peers help them shape their craft. In Britney Spears' case, I assume that means she will teach hopefuls how to use Auto-Tune.

Face to face You don't have to be a political junkie to be excited about the first Presidential Debate (8 p.m., various networks and cable news stations), which will cover the economy and health care. PBS iron horse Jim Lehrer moderates for the 12th time.

Batter up
The Minnesota Twins end their season tonight against the almost-as-lowly Toronto Blue Jays (6:07 p.m., FSN), but you can still root for Joe Mauer as he contends for a fourth batting title. And flip to ESPN and ESPN2 to get a preview of playoff contenders, as the New York Yankees play the Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles battle the red-hot Rays.
