TV critic's picks: Friday

Fourth of July programming; Jennifer Lopez on "Behind the Music"

July 1, 2010 at 7:32PM

Snap! Crackle! Pop! Why brave the bugs and crowds when you can celebrate the holiday weekend from the comfort of your couch? Options include "America Celebrates July 4th at Ford's Theatre" (8 p.m. Friday, KSTP, Ch. 5) with Kelly Clarkson, Renee Fleming and Colin Powell (we just pray they collaborate on "Party in the USA"); "A Capitol Fourth" (7 p.m. Sunday, KTCA, Ch. 2) with David Archuleta, Darius Rucker and renowned pianist Lang Lang; "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" (8 p.m. Sunday, KARE, Ch. 11) hosted by Nick Cannon, and "Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular" (9 p.m. Sunday, WCCO, Ch. 4), in which the orchestra will try to keep up with Toby Keith.

We will always love her On one level, "Dolly Celebrates 25 Years of Dollywood" (7 p.m. Saturday, Hallmark) is nothing more than a one-hour advertisement for her Tennessee amusement park. That said, it's a kick to watch Parton team up with guest Miley Cyrus on "Jolene" and watch her reunite on "Islands in the Stream" with Kenny Rogers, who admits that he thought the song was terrible until producer Barry Gibb coaxed Parton to chime in.

Veterans day Trapper John and B.J. never crossed paths at the 4077, but the actors who played them -- Wayne Rogers and Mike Farrell -- were more than willing to swap war stories in the 2002 special "M*A*S*H: 30th Anniversary Reunion" (7 p.m. Sunday, TV Land), which features almost all the major players and lots of trivia about one of the most beloved shows in TV history.

Jenny from the block The latest edition of "Behind the Music" (8 p.m. Sunday, VH1), which sets out to prove that Jennifer Lopez is still from the block, might have gotten a lot more attention if it had been repunctuated as "Behind: The Music," but the cable network decided to stay classy. For shame.
