It's in the genes Brooke Shields is the latest celebrity to use a TV budget to discover her roots. On "Who Do You Think You Are?" (7 p.m. Friday, KARE, Ch. 11), she travels to Europe and discovers she has royal heritage. The tipoff: One of the paintings in the Louvre has a princess sporting Calvin Klein jeans.
There was a crooked man I wasn't too keen on watching a second season of "Merlin" (9 p.m. Friday, SYFY), a collection of tired tricks, until I saw that Mackenzie Crook, best known for playing Gareth on the British version of "The Office," has signed up as the magician's nemesis. If Crook can conjure up as much mischief as he did with Ricky Gervais, I'm ready to pay another visit to Camelot.
DOA Producer Jerry Bruckheimer brings his rat-a-tat sensibilities to the emergency room in "Miami Medical" (9 p.m. Friday, WCCO, Ch. 4), a new series that loses any momentum it had the moment guest star Andre Braugher storms off as the hospital's chief trauma surgeon. Faced with a crew of bland characters and predictable cases, I can't blame him.
Lotsa luck The Disney machine keeps churning along with "Good Luck Charlie" (7:30 p.m. Sunday, DISN), another slapstick heavy, laugh-track fueled sitcom with zero redeemable value with the possible exception of keeping your 11-year-old sedated for a half hour. The "Charlie" in question is the pint-sized youngster Mia Talerico, whose parents are probably praying she will grow up to be the third "Olsen twin."
