All the way from Memphis
"Memphis" (8 p.m. Friday, KTCA, Ch. 2), the 2010 Tony winner for best musical, becomes the first musical to air on national television with its original cast while continuing to run on Broadway and be on a national tour, which comes to St. Paul's Ordway next month.
Beach party
Tuxedo sound a little too tight for the weekend? Then skip Sunday's Oscars, and chill out with host Seth Rogen for the ultra casual "Film Independent Spirit Awards" (9 p.m. Saturday, IFC). The best-picture nominees: "Drive," "50/50," "Beginners," "Take Shelter" and "The Artist."
Charmed, I'm sure
Shannen Doherty, who has done more reality series than acting lately, shows she still has chops in "Witchslayer Gretl" (8 p.m. Saturday, Syfy), a movie that asks the question: What if Hansel and Gretel were all grown up and Gretel had become the witch's assistant? Hint: She wouldn't be hanging out at the Peach Pit.
So bad it's good
Some cable programmer has a wicked sense of humor. While the Oscars are going on, HBO is airing two of the worst-reviewed movies of 2011: "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" (6:05 p.m. Sunday, HBO) and "Something Borrowed" (8 p.m. Sunday, HBO2). The only thing more hilarious would be a Sarah Jessica Parker marathon.
