Diva smackdown It may be the first step toward finding another great singer, but the season premiere of "American Idol" (7 p.m., KMSP, Ch. 9) seems to be all about tracking the supposed feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. The fireworks continue at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Gold rush I would never put together gold mining and paranormal activity, but then I'm not the "genius" behind "Ghost Mine" (9 p.m., Syfy), a new reality-based series in which an Oregon prospector tries to revive a mine that's reported to be haunted.

Nick at night Nick Kroll, best known as Ruxin on FX's "The League," branches out on "Kroll Show" (9:30 p.m., Comedy), a sketch-comedy series in which the inventive actor takes on everyone from a canine plastic surgeon to an inappropriate basketball referee.
