Villanova gets share of Big East crown
Darrun Hilliard scored 19 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, JayVaughn Pinkston had 16 points and eight rebounds, and host No. 6 Villanova clinched at least a share of its second consecutive Big East regular-season title with an 89-61 rout of No. 25 Providence on Tuesday night. Ryan Arcidiacono added 13 points and four assists for the Wildcats (26-2 overall, 13-2 Big East), who shot 53 percent from the field and 52 percent from three-point range. Tyler Harris led Providence (19-9, 9-6) with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
•RIDING THE HOT HAND: Jarell Martin scored 25 points for his second consecutive big game and LSU (20-8, 9-6 SEC) shot a season-high 57.8 percent in an 84-61 rout of Auburn (12-16, 4-11).
•Kansas State athletic director John Currie said the Wildcats "fell short" of their security responsibilities during a chaotic court storming that followed a 70-63 men's basketball victory over No. 8 Kansas on Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum. Currie issued a statement that apologized to Kansas State president Kirk Schulz, the Wildcats' athletic department, KU athletic director Sheahon Zenger, men's basketball coach Bill Self and his team "for the unfortunate situation in which they were placed last night at the conclusion of our basketball game." K-State Police also were looking to identify a fan who collided with Kansas junior Jamari Traylor.
