Idaho Potato Bowl
Akron vs. Utah State
2:30 p.m. from Boise, Idaho; ESPN
Records: Akron 7-5, 5-3 Mid-American; Utah State 6-6, 5-3 Mountain West
The skinny: Utah State goes for its fourth straight bowl victory and a fifth consecutive season with a winning record. It would be the longest streak of winning seasons since the early 1970s. Akron has appeared in one bowl game, in 2005, when the Zips lost to Memphis in the Motor City Bowl. … After an injury-plagued career, Utah State QB Chuckie Keeton is expected to make his final start for the Aggies. Keeton is one of two FBS quarterbacks to start five season openers in his career. He's Utah State's all-time leader in touchdown passes. Akron counters with LB Jatavis Brown, the MAC defensive player of the year after finishing the year with 108 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and three forced fumbles.
The stat: Akron coach Terry Bowden coaching in bowl game for the first time since 1997 with Auburn.
The line: Utah State by 6 ½
Boca Raton Bowl
Toledo vs. Temple
6 p.m. from Boca Raton, Fla.; ESPN
Records: Toledo 9-2, 6-2 Mid-American; Temple 10-3, 7-1 American Athletic
The skinny: Both programs established themselves as serious Top 25 contenders this season with victories over Power Five conference teams and were at the top of their respective conference standings at one time or another. The key to the game might be Toledo's running game against Temple's stout defense. The Owls allowed only 126.3 rushing yards per game, while the Rockets pounded the ball on the ground for an average of 213.2 yards per game. Watch for some explosive collisions between Rockets leading rusher Kareem Hunt (920 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns) and Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich, whose 481 career tackles are the most of any current NCAA player.
The stat: Toledo is making its fifth bowl trip in six seasons and 15th overall.
The line: Temple by 2
