Black Star Farms (two locations)

The largest location, in Suttons Bay, includes Leelanau Cheese Co., which makes raclette and fromage blanc. It also has stables and an inn. The Old Mission tasting room is an extension of the winery on Suttons Bay. $5 to sample and keep the glass. www.blackstarfarms.com

Bowers Harbor Vineyards

Cute and comfortable tasting room. $1 for five samples.

Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery

Looks like a mission from the outside. Check out the recipe files for foods to pair with wines. $5 includes five samples and the glass. www.brysestate.com

Chateau Grand Traverse

Most like a large California winery of those we visited, and it can get crowded. There's an inn on the grounds. Tastings are free. www.cgtwines.com

LMawby Vineyards

Small winery. Tastings are free but there are packages to combine tastings with cheese for $5 and $8. www.lmawby.com

Chateau Chantal Winery & Inn

New building with vista views. Tastings are free. www.chateauchantal.com
