• Assistant coach for the NBA's Washington Wizards from 2009 to 2014 and for the Timberwolves from 2014 until being promoted to interim head coach Sunday.
• Son of former Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders, who died just before the 2015-16 season.
• At age 32, becomes the youngest head coach in the NBA. He is younger than three of his players. The next youngest coach in the NBA is the Los Angeles Lakers' Luke Walton at 38.
