The Timberwolves played so well without Anthony Edwards this week that they will try it again.
The Wolves announced Thursday, Jan. 15, that their All-Star guard will miss the next night’s game at Houston because of right foot injury maintenance.
It’s the same reason that kept Edwards from playing Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Milwaukee. The Wolves also didn’t have Rudy Gobert in that game because the center was serving a one-game suspension, but without two of their best players, they went out and beat the Bucks 139-106.
Edwards, who did not appear to be having any difficulty during practice Thursday at Mayo Clinic Square, had been listed as questionable in other games in January because of the injury, but he didn’t sit out until the Milwaukee game. He also missed three games in December because of a right foot injury.
Edwards played in 79 of 82 games each of the past three seasons for the Wolves, but combined with his four early-season absences because of a hamstring issue, the 24-year-old will have now missed nine games in 2025-26. The Wolves are 5-3 without him this season.
The Rockets game is the start of a back-to-back set in Texas, as the Wolves will visit the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, Jan. 17. In Edwards’ most recent game, he hit the winning shot in the final minute as the Wolves rallied from 19 points down to beat San Antonio on Sunday, Jan. 11. That game was also on the back end of a back-to-back.
Houston also played at home Thursday night against Western Conference leader Oklahoma City.
