Corey Seager won the National League Rookie of the Year award unanimously. Michael Fulmer took the American League honor, a vote that also wasn't all that close.

The two were announced as the winners Monday, when votes from the Baseball Writers' Association of America were made public.

Seager's victory was almost a foregone conclusion after he hit .308 with 26 home runs and 72 RBI this year for the Dodgers. Fulmer had to hold off a late challenge from Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez, who hit 20 homers in only 53 games.

Fulmer's season-long contributions for the Tigers won out. The righthander went 11-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 26 starts for Detroit. He ended up receiving 26 of 30 first-place votes from the BBWAA, outdistancing Sanchez by a total of 142 points to 91.

"I'm really happy and blessed to receive this award," Fulmer said on a conference call. "I knew that both Gary and Tyler [Naquin, third in voting] had outstanding years, and I hope to play against them for a long time."

Fulmer, 23, is the fifth Rookie of the Year in Tigers history. He was acquired in a trade with the Mets at the 2015 trade deadline for Yoenis Cespedes.

Seager received the maximum 150 points in the NL, followed by Washington outfielder Trea Turner (42) and Dodgers pitcher Kenta Maeda (37). Seager is the 17th Dodgers player to earn Rookie of the Year honors — easily the most of any team — but their first since Todd Hollandsworth in 1996.

"It's obviously awesome to win it in general, but to bring it back to L.A. — it hasn't been there for a while, and they're known as an organization for winning all those Rookie of the Years with Tommy Lasorda and all them," Seager said.

Two accept offers

Mets second baseman Neil Walker and Phillies righthander Jeremy Hellickson accepted their $17.2 million qualifying offers, giving up free agency to stay with their teams for 2017.

Eight other free agents did not accept the offers from their former teams by Monday's 4 p.m. deadline: outfielders Jose Bautista (Blue Jays), Yoenis Cespedes (Mets), Ian Desmond (Rangers), Dexter Fowler (Cubs) and Mark Trumbo (Orioles); designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion (Blue Jays); closer Kenley Jansen (Dodgers); and third baseman Justin Turner (Dodgers).

Walker and Hellickson are signed players with Monday's decisions and could be eligible for free agency again after next season.

Walker, 31, hit .282 with 23 homers and 55 RBI in 113 games in 2016 before his season was cut short by back surgery. Hellickson, 29, went 12-10 with a 3.71 ERA in 32 starts for Philadelphia.
