BUFFALO (4-4) at NEW YORK JETS (5-3)

When: 7:25 p.m. Thursday; TV: NFL Network; Line: Jets by 5½

The skinny: This marks the return of Bills coach Rex Ryan, who coached the Jets from 2009-14 and helped lead New York to consecutive trips to the AFC Championship Game during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He was fired after going 4-12 last season and replaced by Todd Bowles.

Notes: Bills QB Tyrod Taylor can join Doug Flutie (1999) as the only QBs in franchise history with five or more games of 40 yards rushing or more in a single season. Taylor has completed 70 of 100 passes in his past four games for 841 yards with six TDs and just one INT. … RB Karlos Williams is looking to become the second player in NFL history with a TD in each of his first six games, joining New England's Robert Edwards (1998). … WR Sammy Watkins has TD catches in three of the past four games, including career-high 168 yards and a TD vs. the Dolphins. … Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has 136 career TD passes, and needs two to surpass Sid Luckman for most by an Ivy League quarterback in NFL history. Fitzpatrick is playing with torn ligaments in his left thumb, which will require surgery — possibly as soon as Friday.
